The short version: we store only what Inkling needs to work, we don't sell it or show you ads, and you can delete your account and everything in it at any time.
Taking the test
While you take the test, your answers stay in your browser. They're sent to us only when you choose to save or share your result:
- Saving stores your answers and scores in your account.
- Sharing creates a link anyone can open. The page shows your Inkling type, your ink bloom and your Clarity, Sense and Trust scores. It doesn't show your name or email. If you share before creating an account, the result is stored without a name, and attached to your account if you sign up later on the same device.
Share links and invitations
We count how many times each share link is opened, and whether someone who opened it goes on to create an account. If you sign up after opening a friend's link, we record that you joined through it. The person who shared it sees only totals, never who you are.
Daily practice without an account
Your type, the blooms you've done, the ones you've favourited and your hunches are kept in your browser's local storage on this device. Clearing your browser data removes them.
With an account
When you sign in, we store:
- Your email address, plus your name and profile picture link if you sign in with Google.
- Your practice: your Inkling type, what you saw in each day's bloom, your daily notes, which blooms you've favourited, and your hunches and how they turned out.
- Your saved test results.
- Sign-in records (sessions), including the IP address and browser they came from, to keep your account secure and to limit abuse.
We use this only to run Inkling for you. Hunches are personal, so we don't read them unless you ask us to help with a problem.
Your daily note
When you're signed in, your daily note is written by Claude, an AI model made by Anthropic. To write it, we send Anthropic your Inkling type, what you saw in the bloom (including anything you typed into “Something else”) and how long you took. We don't send your email, your name or your hunches. See Anthropic's privacy policy.
Who helps us run Inkling
- Vercel hosts the site and measures page visits with Vercel Web Analytics, which doesn't use cookies or identify you.
- Neon hosts the database where account data is stored.
- Resend sends sign-in emails.
- Google handles “Continue with Google” if you choose it.
- Anthropic writes daily notes, as described above.
We don't use advertising trackers, and we don't sell or share your data for marketing.
Cookies and storage
When you're signed in, a cookie keeps you signed in. We also use your browser's local storage to keep your practice and your last result working offline, and to remember which share link brought you here. None of this is used for advertising.
Deleting your data
Open Settings in the app and choose Delete my account. This permanently deletes your account, practice, notes and saved results right away, and their share links stop working. Signing out also clears your practice from that device.
